At Legendary Garage, our passion for the Nissan GT-R knows no bounds. We’ve embarked on a project that melds the finest elements of GT-R history into a singular, extraordinary machine. This endeavor involves transforming a rare R33 N1 chassis into a masterpiece that boasts 400R aesthetics and a formidable 800bhp output.
A Rare Foundation: The R33 N1 Chassis
The foundation of this project is the R33 N1 chassis, a variant of which only 87 units were ever produced. The N1 was designed with performance in mind, featuring a lighter build by omitting amenities like ABS and incorporating a race-prepped engine. As noted by Top Gear, the N1 was “slightly lighter with no ABS and a race-prepped engine.” This rare chassis provides an ideal starting point for a high-performance build.
Embracing 400R Styling
To honor the GT-R’s rich heritage, we’ve integrated authentic 400R design elements into the build. This includes original 400R bumpers, side skirts, and diffuser, along with a vented bonnet and carbon-tipped rear wing. The car retains its ‘QM1 White’ finish, characteristic of the N1 models, and is fitted with Rays Nismo ‘LM1 GT1’ five-spoke alloys accented in blue. These enhancements not only elevate the car’s aesthetic appeal but also pay tribute to the iconic 400R.
Performance Enhancements: Achieving 800bhp
Under the hood, the original N1 block has been meticulously upgraded to achieve an impressive 800bhp. This enhancement involves the use of forged internals from renowned aftermarket brands such as HKS and PRP, along with the installation of more robust turbos, a larger intercooler, and titanium valves. While specific performance figures are yet to be disclosed, these modifications are expected to significantly surpass the standard R33’s 0-62mph time of 5.4 seconds and top speed of 156mph. Top Gear suggests that these changes “should nudge it close to the time of a modern R35.”
Interior: A Nod to the 400R
The interior of the car features original 400R front seats, steering wheel, and floor mats, meticulously sourced to maintain authenticity. A five-speed manual shifter complements the retro-inspired cabin, offering an engaging driving experience that aligns with the GT-R’s legacy.
